“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. ”
These words of an unknown author are a strong leitmotif of our coexistence with the Bernese Mountain Dog.
In 2005, my husband, children and I were victims of a “crime”. It was sudden and unexpected; after all, we didn’t fight back. It was a theft. A theft of the heart. It started with one black and white photograph, slightly blurred, catching the eyes of passers-by in one of the exhibition halls in Nitra. There she sat, a Bernese lady, on a heavy leather chair in a dark room, her eyes shining and maybe even smiling.
Daira.
A few days later she was running through our garden, actively engaged in gardening and naturally blending in with the rhythm of our family.
Our bliss lasted only for five years. How symbolic. Her large and faithful heart fell ill and we were with her until the very last beat. It was February 14, 2011. St. Valentine’s Day.
At the same time the story of Ewa began.
We could find no other – more dignified – way to cope with our loss than to look for a puppy we could devote ourselves to as we did to Daira. In the Czech kennel Bermondo Bohemia, the puppies of the E litter have just started their first garden wanderings, among which, besides Ewa, the future junior world champion Erra and the other successful sisters Emma-Marlie and Ella were chasing each other. It was a very balanced and high quality litter. I would be lying if I didn’t mention that it was the dam of the litter, C.I.B. Bagheera Bermondo Bohemia that completely wowed me. Yes, that’s how I pictured our new bitch – beautiful, powerful and elegant on the move with quality bloodlines. And who was the father of those beautiful puppies? The majestic and for many the perfect MultiCH Barancourt van de Weyenberg.
And what did we actually bring home in March 2011 ?
A spirited, intelligent and confident puppy that from the first moments told us:
“I am here and I will be seen.” And so it was.
A year later, the time ripened for the decision to embark on the path of active breeders. We didn’t quit our jobs, we became a small family-type kennel where the dogs have been living with us at home. The name BernEwa’s carries her name. Ewa became our foundation bitch, who gave us two great litters, A and B.
The brand Bernewa’s defines us. We strive to do our best to keep Quality, Integrity and Wellfare in responsible breeding.
